How Is A Misdemeanor Different From A Felony?
Generally speaking, misdemeanors are punishable by up to 12 months in the county jail and/or a $1,000 fine. Most traffic citations are misdemeanors. Felonies are crimes that are generally punishable by longer than one year in prison and/or a fine greater than $1,000.
When you are considering your options for how to deal with criminal charges, both misdemeanors and felonies can mean that you have consequences that will follow you for the rest of your life. Talking to an experienced trial lawyer about the options that are available in your situation is critical for your personal and professional life and freedom.
